Following Elvis’s death, he was placed there alongside his beloved mother, Gladys Presley, whose remains were moved into a crypt beneath her son.

On October 2, 1977, under the cover of a private and tightly controlled ceremony, Elvis and Gladys were finally brought home to Graceland. Unlike the massive public funeral that had drawn worldwide attention, this second service was intimate, quiet, and deeply emotional. Only a handful of family members and close friends were present as the caskets were lowered into their final resting place.
For Vernon, the ceremony marked the end of a painful journey. He reportedly told those around him that he simply wanted to bring “my son and his mama home.”
Over the decades, the Meditation Garden became more than Elvis’s resting place. It became the final home of the Presley family. Vernon Presley was buried there in 1979, followed by Elvis’s grandmother Minnie Mae in 1980.
Then, decades later, tragedy struck the family once again. In 2020, Elvis’s grandson, Benjamin Keough, was laid to rest at Graceland. Three years later, Lisa Marie Presley joined her son there.
